Best Buds, Rock Star and Rodao
June 4Th 2007 marks one year since the fire here at RockStar Cattery. We still haven't fully healed emotionally and still mourn for
the loss of our very special girl, Rodao. The contractors have finished rebuilding the cat yard, which is more beautiful than it was
before. Was it worth it? Of course not, but we all love it and enjoy our nice summer days outside again.
We have built a beautiful garden over Rodao's resting place. We have planted catnip, catmint, jasmine, and lavender. The cats
spend time at her grave everyday getting as high as they can before I have to tear them away to keep them from killing the plants. :)
Rock Star has fully healed. He looks beautiful and is still a very happy boy. I don't think he knows or cares that he has, what looks
like, chewed up chicken bones for back legs. Or, as we lovingly call them, his "pirate peg legs." He doesn't have any paw pads or
claws on the back, so he can't stand on slick surfaces or climb the cat tree. He has us trained though, a simple meow usually is
sufficient communication, and we will pick him up and put him where he wants to go. Getting down is never a problem, only getting
up. :)
His hip surgery took place in October after the burns healed. That took a bit of physical therapy, but his limp is almost gone. He has
just a slight "pimp stroll" as we call it. Some days he seems sorer than others, but regardless of how his hip seems to feel, he is still
a super love and knows how to lure us to him so he doesn't have to get up.
We can't believe it's already been a year. I think back on how we were caring for him 24/7 wondering how he would be a year from
now and anxiously awaiting when he would be able to care for himself again. It's finally here and we are so thankful that he is OK
and still has such a wonderful love for life.
