Pixie - Bobs 101
The Pixie-Bob legend is just that, a legend. It's a story that's been handed down through the years, possibly
connected with real events, that attempts to explain how the Pixie came to be. Stories have been told for over a
hundred years about bobcat/domestic hybrid sightings all over the U.S. long before the Pixie became a
recognized breed.
However, several tests have been done by reputable labs to see if any bobcat DNA markers could be found
with in the Pixie breed. These tests keep telling us that there aren't any. Because of this and the fact that
Pixies can be found in their natural state, living in the "wild", Pixies are considered a naturally occurring domestic
breed and not hybrids.
Weather the Pixies bobcatty appearance comes from such ancestral matings or from Mother Natures other
selective breeding program, "survival of the fittest", we will never know for sure. Through our selective breeding
program we strive to maintain and improve their bobcatty look. The use of bobcats in a Pixie breeding program is
not condoned by reputable breeders.
